The Viti Roofing Devo Babas are the new champions of the Fiji Bitter Nawaka 7s, after defeating the BLK Lavidi Brothers 20-0 in the cup final yesterday.

For the Devo team, this is their fifth Fiji Bitter 7s win after wins at the Wairiki, Labasa, Savusavu and Tabadamu tournaments.

Coach Bill Ratute was a grateful man after the match.

“We are so thankful for today and we would like to thank the Lord for protecting our team and guiding us along the way,” Ratute said.

“We got into camp recently, it was only for a week that we had to prepare ourselves for this 7s tournament.”

Clinching the Nawaka 7s bonus points fixture of 75 points is another added star on their armour, ahead of their participation at the Fiji Bitter Marist 7s next week in Suva.

Going into next week, they are carrying with them the key lessons learnt along the way, especially in Nawaka.

“Whenever we play in every tournament, the one thing we tell the boys is to treat every game as a final,” Ratute said.

“As we move up in the tournament, the competition will get tough and that’s why we’ve regarded each game as a final.”

The outpouring of support for the Devo team was prevalent in Prince Charles Park during the final, and Ratute thanked them for expressing their support.

Meanwhile, the Devo Babas walked away with $10,000 in prize money.
