Louisiana cop allowed to retire with no charges filed after video catches him beating his wife in bar
Lafayette Police Department Captain Dwayne Prejean

A top police officer in Louisiana abruptly retire Friday after surveillance video taken inside a Lafayette bar on New Years Eve allegedly captured a domestic violence incident, KLFY News reports.

Lafayette Police Department Captain Dwayne Prejean identified by "multiple sources" as the police officer who was placed on administrative leave during an internal affairs investigation, though the department refused to confirm the former officer's name.

The video shows a couple arguing at the bar. The man, reportedly Captian Prejean, appears to strike the woman in the face with a cell phone.

The video then appears to show the woman wiping a tear from her eye.

The couple continue to argue before the woman strikes him in the face with a glass, appearing to cause a laceration that the man attends to with a bar napkin.

As KLFY noted, in 2016 Prejean was removed as Lafayette metro narcotics captain in a scandal involving a 15th Judicial District assistant attorney, who was fired of the matter.

"Neither the district attorney’s office or the police department sought further disciplinary action, however, the nature of the relationship between the two individuals was never disclosed," KFLY explained.

In 2014, Prejean was named in a federal corruption lawsuit by 15 former police officers.

This was also not Prejean's only incident of having alleged misconduct captured on video.

In 2015, video was uploaded to Youtube that allegedly shows Prejean drinking heavily inside a bar, then being released by police after being stopped for driving under the influence.
